The Perfect Travel Handbag

There has been much discussion lately in my Contiki group about what bags we should take along for our trip. As you can imagine, the popular choices are your standard suitcases, but then we are required to take an overnight bag into our hotels (everybody, including myself, are tending towards your standard Country Road Tote and then also a day bag for our day-to-day travels (a handbag).

I have heard all about the risks of being robbed throughout Europe so I am really worried about what bag I should take. There are ofcourse the body bags that you keep under your clothes, though according to forums, Contiki goers haven't found much use for these. I also want to keep away from backpacks because they are so obviously touristy and scream "rob me, I don't know where I am!"

After looking around, these are some options that I have found that might be good. Do you have a favourite handbag/brand of handbags that you rely on for your travels?

This one is from Top Shop and I like the style and how thin it is. Not so sure about the bottom pocket though, would be very easy to undo and steal from.

I just love Michael Kors. Any excuse for one of his bags is a perfectly valid excuse to me!

I like the fact that this bag from Fossil is canvas. This material always seems easier to use for travelling.

I think this one is my favourite. Fossil really make a nice bag and I love the pockets in the inside of this one.

  1. Love the first bag from Topshop, I normally use a small light weight Samsonite suitcase!

    1. For each day? I guess that's certainly an option. It's so hard to plan!

  2. I'm after one as well. I have a big shoulder bag I've taken on previous overseas trips but I also end up getting such a sore shoulder. I'm considering taking a backpack on the plane but looking for a handbag that can fit my camera for day time but isn't too bulky.

    1. Yes that's what I need. It's hard to find a bag though that will fit a camera like the ones we have. Frustrating.

  4. I guess it depends on how much luggage you need for your hotel stays. If it's only over nighters then these bags will do the job. I've found from my travels into London that shoulder bags get heavy very quick - even just getting from a tube station to your hotel. You might feel like a complete w^nker with a rolly suitcase but they're handy and you won't put your back out carrying around all your toiletries and GHDS and SHOES. Just my 2 cents.
I think the last one from Fossil is your best bet as it has a shoulder strap - as long as you hang it IN FRONT of your body it would be pretty hard to pilfer from.
I'm too excited for you and your travels!

    1. That is the best advice ever, you are amazing. I actually was thinking the other day that if I was to take a shoulder bag, you are right, it would get really heavy. So perhaps a small backpack would be my best bet. But I have never really been a massive fan of backpacks!
