pics from the weekend
Living in Sydney I am very lucky to have access to some amazing restaurants. I was trying to behave this weekend so I went out a few times for meals, including a date on my own for lunch which was certainly a first for me.

On Friday night I had a lovely night out with Hannah of Nellie and Oliver in Surry Hills. Surry Hills is a hub for trendy restaurants, bars and fashion - it's a fantastic area and if you are ever in Sydney it is certainly worth a visit.

First stop - Mint Cafe

Mint Cafe is a cafe by the day and transforms into an amazing Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurant at night. Apparently the breakfasts are fantastic there but I have only had the lunch and dinner. Previously I have had the Vegetable Cous Cous Salad followed by a delicious Rose Custard. It was tasty.

Tonight I think I made an amazing choice - Lamb Kafta Tagine with Vegetable Cous Cous. I very rarely eat meat but this was so delicious.

The ambience is interesting there. I have to admit we sat outside and there seemed to be quite a few drunk (loud) people around, but inside it's a dark small bar/cafe and the food makes it well worth a visit.

Second stop - Kurtosh

I would never usually have dessert, but when I saw this place across the road I knew we needed to pay a visit. I have been to this Hungarian bakery before as there is one located in Randwick as well. It is a magnificent pastry bakery developed by three men, Tom, Jean-Marc and Ben, in 2010. The Patisserie reflects the cooking enjoyed by Tom in his family home.

The best (or perhaps the worst) thing about the cake there (of which there are many choices) is that you pay per 100grams. So the person behind the counter gets out his spatula and moves it along the cake until you tell him to stop. Secretly I am thinking "you know what just give me the entire slab". Unfortunately I was too concerned about whether or not my size selection was putting me on the verge of piggy, so I stuck to the 100grams. I chose the english breakfast tea with a peanut butter chocolate cake. It was delicious.

Please, do yourself a favour and make the trip to either the Randwick or Surry Hills patisserie. Perhaps this place is one to keep for special occasions because although it's tasty, it's not particularly nutritiously healthy (I am sure you are that shocked about that right now).

  1. Ooh both of those places look like fabulous and tasty places to visit. We will have to book a trip to Sydney just so we can visit! Lovely blog! Happy Valentine's week! Xoxo, M&K @ BT

    1. Thanks so much. That's the tough thing, there are just so many nice places around and not enough time to visit them all. I definitely would advise a trip to Surry Hills here though! I am sure there are loads of people here, like me, who would be happy to show you round.

Happy Valentines Week to you too! And great blog, I am now following you on Bloglovin :)
